Gain deeper insights and design smarter nudges with new playbook

Our new nudging playbook brings together evidence-based insights and practical design tools to empower planning and development of behavioral interventions.

Why did we create yet another nudging playbook?

While many handbooks exist on designing and researching behavioral nudges for enhancing sustainable choices, many fall short when it comes to offering hands-on guidance for real-world implementation. We noticed that although these resources are often engaging, they rarely provide the depth needed to support systematic and context-sensitive design work.

Rather than producing a traditional manual, we’ve developed a playbook that aims to foster a mindset of experimentation, practice-based learning, and a richer understanding of your target audiences. Although the playbook was developed with public sector professionals in mind, particularly those involved in climate action and urban planning, its principles and tools are equally useful across a wide range of sectors.

What’s in the playbook?

This playbook brings together evidence-based insights and practical design tools to empower your planning and development of behavioral interventions. The first section introduces nudging as a scientifically grounded method for influencing behavior, showcasing examples from our pilot projects that promote sustainable mobility. The second part offers practical co-design tools to help you create impactful and engaging nudges designed to the needs of your target groups.

As an example, it explores interventions that have already been piloted within 1.5 Degree city project, such as offering e-bikes as substitute vehicles for car maintenance customers, creating a gamified lesson to elementary school to learn using buses, Move Green Together challenge for youth to promote sustainable mobility, and a co-creation workshop with seniors of digital route search for public transportation.
